Troubleshooting AltFTool: Fix Common Problems

Most AltFTool problems are fixed by reloading the page, updating the browser, or briefly disabling an extension that blocks scripts. If a tool still fails, check the Status page, run the device diagnostics in Support, and then report it with the page address.

Quick fixes to try first

  1. Reload the page

A hard reload (Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) fetches a fresh copy and fixes most one-off glitches, especially right after a site update.

  2. Update your browser

AltFTool targets current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Older browsers can miss features that file and image tools rely on.

  3. Try without extensions

Script, privacy or ad-blocking extensions can stop a tool's code from loading. Open the page in a private window, where most extensions are off, to test.

  4. Check the Status page

If several pages fail at once, look at Status to see whether a platform service is having trouble. See service status and uptime.

  5. Run the diagnostics

The device diagnostics page checks whether local storage and cookies are available, whether you are online, and how long the page took to load.

Error pages and pages not found

If you see a ‘something went wrong’ screen, it is usually a one-off. Use the Try again button on that screen, or carry on from one of the links it offers. If it happens every time on the same page, report it.

If a link leads to a page-not-found screen, AltFTool turns the words in the broken address into a suggested search. For example, a misspelled calculator link still offers a search for that calculator. You can also search everything from site search or browse the site map.

File, image and tool problems

  • Very large files can be slow or run out of memory on phones because many tools process files in your browser. Try a smaller file, close other tabs, or use a computer.
  • If a download does not start, check that your browser is not blocking downloads or pop-ups from the site.
  • If an output looks wrong, re-check the input format, units and settings. The tool page explains which formats it accepts.
  • If a feature using AI, live data or a lookup shows an error, the external provider may be busy, rate limited or briefly down. Wait a minute and try again.

Account and preference problems

  • Theme, favorites or recent tools keep resetting: your browser may be clearing site data or blocking storage, or you may be in a private window. See saved preferences and browser storage.
  • Confirmation or reset email has not arrived: check spam and promotions folders, then request a new link. Confirmation links work for 24 hours and reset links for 60 minutes.
  • Cannot sign in: use Forgot password, or try the other sign-in method you used before. More in account and sign-in.
  • A page looks wrong in dark mode: switch theme from the header to compare, then report the page. See light and dark theme.

Still stuck?

Browse the troubleshooting guides in Support, or send us the details through the contact page. Including the page address, your browser and device, and the exact error text makes it much faster to fix. The guide on reporting a bug has a checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Why is an AltFTool tool not loading?

Usually a stale page, an outdated browser or an extension blocking scripts. Hard reload, update the browser, and test in a private window. If it still fails, check the Status page and report it.

What should I do on a page-not-found screen?

Use the suggested search built from the broken address, search the site, or browse the site map. If an AltFTool link is broken, please report it.

Why is a file tool slow on my phone?

Many file tools process data in your browser, so large files depend on your device's memory and speed. Try a smaller file or a computer.
