Do you need an extension or app?
Usually not. Every tool in the directory works in a normal browser on desktop and mobile without installing anything. Extensions, apps and desktop software are for people who want a tool permanently in their toolbar, on their phone's home screen, or running outside the browser.
Browser extensions
The extensions directory lists Chrome extensions and browser add-ons for productivity, browsing, SEO, developer work, writing, games and more. Each extension has its own page with a description and an install link.
Where an extension shows a score, it is entered by an editor rather than collected from visitors, and the page says so. Before installing any extension, read the permissions it requests in your browser's store dialog; an extension that can 'read and change all your data on all websites' deserves extra care.
Android apps
The apps page offers official AltFTool Android apps as APK downloads, including Speed Test (download, upload and ping), Storage Cleanup, a grammar and spelling helper, PDF OCR Scanner and Anternet. Apps that are not yet published are marked as coming soon and have no download button. The catalogue deliberately shows no ratings or install counts, because there is no verified source for them.
Download the APK on your phone
Open /apps on your Android device, choose an app and download its APK file.
Allow the install
Android will ask you to allow installs from your browser. Grant it for this install only if you trust the source.
Install and open
Open the downloaded file, confirm the install, and launch the app from your home screen.
Tidy up permissions
Afterwards you can switch off 'install unknown apps' for your browser again in Android settings.
Desktop software
The desktop software directory links straight to the official download pages for popular Windows and Mac software, such as Visual Studio Code, Firefox, VLC, OBS Studio, Zoom and Discord. There are no mirrors and no bundled installers: you always download from the publisher.
If what you actually need is a quick conversion or edit, a browser tool is often faster than installing software. The free alternatives page and Deals compare paid software against the free AltFTool page that covers the same job.
