Saved Preferences, Favorites and Browser Storage on AltFTool

AltFTool keeps a few conveniences in your browser's local storage on each device: your theme choice, favorite tools and recently used tools. They are not synchronised between devices, and clearing site data removes them.

What AltFTool saves in your browser

To keep things quick without forcing an account, AltFTool remembers a few preferences in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device; it is not a cookie sent with every request.

  • Theme: whether you chose Light, Dark or System. See light and dark theme.
  • Favorite tools: the tools you saved, shown under Saved tools.
  • Recently used tools: the last few tools you opened, so you can jump back to them.
  • Some individual tools keep your own work or settings locally between visits; the tool page notes when it does this.

Using favorites and recent tools

  1. Save a tool

In the tool library, use the star (save) button on a tool card. Press it again to remove the tool from your list.

  2. Open your saved list

Choose the Saved view in the library, go straight to Saved tools, or use the quick link on your account page.

  3. Jump back to recent tools

The Recent view in the library lists tools you opened recently, and the search palette (Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on Mac) shows your last few before you type.

When saved data disappears

If preferences never seem to stick, open the device diagnostics in Support. It checks whether local storage and cookies are available in your browser.

  • Clearing your browser's cookies and site data for AltFTool.
  • Using a private or incognito window, which discards storage when it closes.
  • Switching to a different browser or device.
  • Browser settings or extensions that block or regularly wipe local storage.

Privacy of locally stored data

Local storage is readable by pages on the same site in your browser, but it is not uploaded as part of normal browsing. Anyone with access to your unlocked device and browser profile could see it, so use a separate browser profile on shared computers.

For how AltFTool handles data more broadly, read privacy and local processing and the privacy policy. The cookie policy explains cookies and similar technologies.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to save favorite tools?

No. Favorites are saved in your browser on that device, with or without an account.

Why did my favorites disappear?

Usually because browser data was cleared, a private window was closed, or you are on a different browser or device. Favorites are stored locally, not in your account.

Can I clear everything AltFTool stored?

Yes. Clear cookies and site data for altftool.com in your browser settings. This resets your theme, favorites and recent tools.
