About this tool
Test and train your memory by matching pairs of cards. Choose from multiple themes and difficulty levels.
The Memory Card Game deals a face-down grid of paired emoji cards and asks you to turn them over two at a time until every pair is found. Each deal is built by duplicating the chosen emoji set and running it through a Fisher-Yates shuffle (a descending swap loop over Math.random), so the layout is different every round. The whole game is a single client-side React component: the timer is a 1-second setInterval, unmatched cards stay visible for 800 ms before flipping back, and no card data, score or session is ever sent to a server.
Open Memory Card Game on AltFTool — it loads instantly in your browser.
Pick a difficulty — Easy (4 pairs), Medium (6 pairs) or Hard (8 pairs). The board deals and the timer starts immediately.
Tap two cards to turn them face up. Matched pairs stay revealed; a mismatch flips back after 800 ms while the board is locked.
Find every pair to trigger the win panel with your final moves and time, then hit Play Again or Restart for a freshly shuffled deck.
The deck is rebuilt and reshuffled with Fisher-Yates on load, on difficulty change and on every Restart, so card positions are never repeated from the previous game.
Easy deals 4 pairs (8 cards), Medium 6 pairs (12 cards) and Hard 8 pairs (16 cards), each with its own emoji theme, all on a four-column grid.
Three counters update as you play: moves (one per two-card turn), elapsed time in M:SS, and pairs found out of total — plus a best time for the current session.
The game is free, needs no account or download, and makes no network requests: all state lives in the page while it is open.
Flip two cards per turn and try to find matching pairs. If the two emojis match they stay face up and lock in with a green ring; if they don't, the board briefly locks and both cards flip back after 800 milliseconds. Clear every pair to win.
It depends on the difficulty: Easy is 8 cards (4 pairs), Medium is 12 cards (6 pairs) and Hard is 16 cards (8 pairs). All three are laid out in a four-column grid, so Easy is 4x2, Medium 4x3 and Hard 4x4.
Yes — it's free, runs in the browser, and needs no signup, app install or account. The game is a self-contained client-side React component, so no scores, times or gameplay data are uploaded anywhere.
One move is counted each time you turn over a second card, not per individual card. That means a flawless game equals the number of pairs: 4 moves on Easy, 6 on Medium and 8 on Hard.
The theme is tied to the difficulty rather than picked separately: Easy uses animal emojis, Medium uses food and Hard uses space. Switching difficulty switches the deck and immediately starts a fresh game.
Only for as long as the page stays open. Best time is held in the component's state, not in localStorage or an account, so it survives Restart and Play Again but is cleared by a page reload. It's also a single best across all three difficulties in that session.
The timer starts the moment a board is dealt — on first load, on Restart, and on any difficulty change — ticking once per second and displayed as minutes:seconds. It stops as soon as the final pair is matched, and the win panel shows the moves and time you finished with.
This is a game, not a training programme or a clinical tool, and it makes no claims about improving memory. What it does is give you a timed, scored exercise in short-term recall: remembering where a given emoji sat before it flipped back.
