What the Code Assistant does

The AltAI Code Assistant is a general AI chat model with an instruction to help with programming. Paste a snippet and an error message to find a bug, ask what a function does, or describe a small task and get example code with an explanation. It handles common languages such as JavaScript, Python, SQL, HTML and CSS. It is free, needs no account, and chats stay in your browser.

It cannot run your code, see your project files or access your repository, so it works only from what you paste. Generated code can contain bugs, outdated APIs or security problems. Read it, test it and never paste secrets such as API keys or passwords. For formatting JSON or checking a regular expression, the dedicated AltFTool tools are quicker.

  • Explains as it goes

Code comes with a short explanation, so you understand what you are pasting into your project.

  • Debugging from errors

Share the error message and relevant code, and it identifies the likely cause and a fix.

  • Code review

It points out bugs, unclear naming, edge cases and common security mistakes.

  • Clear about assumptions

It cannot run code, so it states what it assumed and what you should test.

Tips for better answers

  • Include the language, framework and version.
  • Paste the full error message, not a paraphrase.
  • Share only the relevant part of the code, not the whole project.
  • Ask for tests or edge cases alongside the solution.

Questions

Is the AltAI Code Assistant free?

Yes. The Code Assistant is a free mode in AltAI and does not require an account. You can ask about code as often as you need within normal fair-use limits. Your conversations stay in your browser rather than on an account.

Can it run or test my code?

No. It reads the code you paste and reasons about it, but it cannot execute anything, see your files or connect to your repository. It is instructed to state its assumptions and not to claim it has tested code. Always run and test suggestions in your own environment before relying on them.

Is the generated code safe to use?

Treat it like code from a stranger online: useful, but to be reviewed. It can include bugs, deprecated functions or insecure patterns, such as missing input validation. Read it, understand it, test it and check licences or company policy before using it in production.

Which programming languages does it know?

It can help with most popular languages, including JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C#, PHP, Go, SQL, HTML, CSS and shell scripting. It is strongest in widely used languages and frameworks. Very new library versions may be missing from its knowledge, so mention the version you use.

Should I paste API keys or passwords?

No. Remove secrets such as API keys, database passwords and tokens before pasting code into any AI chat. Replace them with placeholders like YOUR_API_KEY. If you have already shared a real key anywhere public, rotate it with the provider as a precaution.
