What the Paraphrasing Tool does

The AltAI Paraphrasing Tool is a general AI chat model with an instruction to reword text. Paste a sentence or paragraph, choose a tone such as simpler, more formal or more concise, and it gives you a few alternative versions that keep the original meaning. It is free, needs no account, and your conversations are kept in your own browser.

Paraphrasing is useful for clearer wording, varied phrasing and adapting text for a new reader. It is not a way to pass off someone else's work as your own: rewording a source still requires a citation. The model cannot check text against published sources, and it can occasionally shift the meaning of a sentence, so compare each version with the original.

  • Three versions at once

Each request returns several rewrites so you can choose or combine the best parts.

  • Tone and level control

Ask for simpler, formal, shorter, friendlier or a specific reading level.

  • Keeps key details

Names, numbers, technical terms and quotes are left as they are.

  • Honest about citations

It reminds you that reworded ideas from a source still need to be credited.

Tips for better answers

  • Name the reader, such as customers, students or a manager.
  • Ask for a target length, like "under 30 words".
  • Tell it which words must stay unchanged.
  • Combine parts of two versions and ask it to smooth the result.

Questions

Is the AltAI Paraphrasing Tool free?

Yes. The paraphrasing mode is part of AltAI, which is free and needs no sign-up. Paste your text, ask for the change you want and copy the version you like. Conversations are stored in your browser, so there is no account history on our side.

Will the paraphrased text pass plagiarism checks?

We cannot promise that, and the assistant does not check text against any database of published work. Rewording a source does not remove the need to cite it. Use paraphrasing to make your own writing clearer or to explain an idea in your words, and credit the original author when the idea came from them.

Can it change the meaning by mistake?

Yes, occasionally. A language model may soften a claim, drop a qualifier or pick a word with a slightly different sense. It is told to preserve meaning and keep key terms, but you should compare each version with the original, especially for technical, legal or academic text.

How long can the text be?

Short to medium passages work best, roughly a few paragraphs at a time. Very long text may be cut short or handled less carefully. For a long document, paste it in sections and keep the same instructions for each, so the tone stays consistent across the whole piece.

When should I use paraphrasing versus summarising?

Paraphrase when you want the same content at roughly the same length but in different words, tone or reading level. Summarise when you want the main points in much less space. AltAI has a separate Summary mode for that, and you can switch between the two in the same chat.
