Worked example: planning backwards from three deadlines

  1. 1Today is 1 November. Lab report due 4 November (3 days left), essay due 10 November (9 days left), group project due 20 November (19 days left).
  2. 2The essay needs about 6 hours; spread over the 8 days before its due date that is 6 ÷ 8 = 0.75 hours, or 45 minutes a day.
  3. 3Finish the lab report first, since its 3 days leave the least room for slippage.
  4. 4Set your own target one day early for each task: 3, 9 and 19 November.

Why track assignments in one place?

Deadlines arrive from different courses, portals, emails and group chats. When they live in your head, it is easy to remember the urgent one and forget the large one due next week. A single list sorted by date shows both, and seeing days left beside each task helps you start long assignments early instead of discovering them two days before they are due.

How do I prioritise assignments?

  • Start with the nearest deadline that you cannot finish in one sitting.
  • Weigh effort and marks: a 25% essay deserves earlier attention than a 2% quiz.
  • Break big projects into steps with their own dates.
  • Set a personal deadline a day before the real one to absorb surprises.
  • Mark tasks done as soon as they are submitted so the list stays honest.

Combine deadlines with your study plan

Assignments and exams compete for the same hours. Keep exams in the planner and coursework in the tracker, and check both when you plan your week. If a large deadline lands close to an exam, move part of the assignment earlier. Assignment tracker: questions and answers

Does the tracker send deadline reminders?

No. AltF Campus has no account or server, so it cannot send emails or notifications. Open the tracker when you plan your day, or copy key deadlines into your phone's calendar if you need alerts. Making a habit of checking the list each morning works for most students.

Can I use it for group projects?

You can track your own parts of a group project, but the list is personal and stored only in your browser. To share, export your Campus data as JSON or agree deadlines in your group's usual channel. Adding your own internal deadline for each part helps keep the group on schedule.

What happens to completed assignments?

They stay in the list marked as done until you delete them, so you can see what you have submitted this term. Clearing them at the end of a semester keeps the list focused. Export a backup first if you want a record of the term's work.

Will my assignments sync to my phone?

Not automatically. Data is stored per browser and device. Use export to download a JSON file and import it in the browser on your phone; changes made afterwards on one device do not appear on the other. Pick one main device to avoid conflicting copies.
