About this tool
Compute your Anna University semester GPA from letter grades and course credits using the official Σ(Ci×GPi)/ΣCi formula.
This calculator computes an Anna University semester GPA using the formula in the university's UG regulations: GPA = Σ(Ci × GPi) ÷ ΣCi, the credit weighted mean of grade points. It is built for B.E., B.Tech and allied-programme students of Anna University and its affiliated colleges who want the GPA from their letter grades (O = 10 down to C = 5, with U and AB at 0) before or alongside the official grade sheet.

Uses Σ(Ci × GPi) ÷ ΣCi over registered courses, exactly as Anna University's UG regulations define GPA.
O, A+, A, B+, B, C, U and AB with their 10-point grade values and mark bands — no lookup needed.
U and AB count at 0 grade points with their credits still in the denominator, matching how a fail actually hits the average.
GPA = Σ(Ci × GPi) ÷ ΣCi — multiply each course's credits by its grade point, add them up, and divide by the total credits registered that semester. For example, A+ (9) in a 4-credit course, A (8) in a 3-credit course and O (10) in a 3-credit course give (36 + 24 + 30) ÷ 10 = 9.0.
O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, and U (fail) or AB (absent) = 0, on a 10-point scale. Under the 2017 and 2021 UG regulations these letters correspond to mark bands of 91–100, 81–90, 71–80, 61–70, 56–60 and 50–55 respectively, with 50 as the pass mark.
Yes — a U contributes 0 grade points while its credits remain in the denominator, so it drags the semester GPA down sharply. Once you clear the course in a later attempt, the grade earned then is used in the cumulative CGPA in place of the U.
GPA covers the courses of one semester; CGPA applies the same Σ(Ci × GPi) ÷ ΣCi formula across all courses completed in all semesters so far. Degree classifications such as first class with distinction are decided on the final CGPA and arrear history under the regulation you were admitted in, so check your specific regulation for the exact cut-offs.
