About this tool
Write address update letters for banks, schools, utilities and the RTO, with the right proof of address and deadline check.
An address change request letter is the written intimation you send to a bank, school, utility, insurer, employer or RTO so they update the residential address held against your account, admission number, consumer number or vehicle registration. This builder swaps the addressee, reference field and accepted proof list to match whoever you are writing to, and it applies two hard rules: section 49 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 gives you thirty days to intimate a new address to the registering authority, and the RBI's KYC Master Direction only accepts a utility bill that is under two months old as proof of address.
Open Address Change Request Letter on AltFTool — it loads instantly in your browser.
Pick who you are writing to from the Writing to list — Bank or NBFC, School or college, Electricity board / discom, LPG / piped gas agency, Insurance company, Employer / HR department, Post office (redirection), RTO / registering authority or Telecom / broadband provider — then fill Date you moved (or will move), Date of this letter, Proof of address you are enclosing and Date on that document.
Complete Your full name, the recipient's own reference field, Old address and New address; the panel then reports RTO intimation due (30 days from the move), Address proof age, Usable as proof until (2 months) and Still within the two-month rule, alongside the documents that office usually accepts.
The Your address change letter section shows the finished draft with its word count; Copy letter puts the letter on the clipboard, Copy summary copies just the dates, and Reset restores the sample values.
Nine recipient types, each with its own addressee, reference field and list of documents that office actually accepts.
Counts the thirty-day RTO window and the two-month freshness limit on a utility bill used as address proof.
The letter asks for written confirmation and covers cheque book, card, statements or transport route depending on who you write to.
Put your reference number — account, admission, consumer or registration number — in the subject line, state the date you moved, set out the old and new address on separate lines, name the proof of address enclosed, and ask for written confirmation once the record is updated. Sign with your name, the reference number and your phone and email.
Thirty days. Section 49(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 requires the owner of a registered vehicle who stops residing at the recorded address to intimate the new address to the registering authority within thirty days, in Form 33 under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Filing late usually means paying a fee or penalty and asking for the delay to be condoned.
Aadhaar, passport, driving licence and voter ID are officially valid documents when they carry the current address. Where they do not, the RBI's KYC Master Direction lets a bank accept a limited set of documents for the limited purpose of proving address — including a utility bill of any service provider that is not more than two months old — after which you have three months to submit an officially valid document showing the updated address.
No. Aadhaar addresses are updated through the UIDAI self-service portal or an enrolment centre with a supported proof of address, and a PAN address is changed through the correction application on the NSDL or UTIITSL portal. A letter is the right route for banks, schools, utilities, insurers, employers and the RTO.
