You need an active mobile and email for OTR, a photo identity card (Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, passport or driving licence), your matriculation certificate for name and date of birth, degree details, a fresh photograph and scanned signature, and any category certificate you claim — OBC non-creamy-layer, EWS income and asset, SC/ST caste, or PwBD certificate. The photo ID whose number you enter must also be carried to the examination.
Recent Civil Services Examination notifications require a photograph taken within the last 10 days of uploading, with the candidate's name and the date the photo was taken printed on it. The exact format and file-size band are stated in each notification, so match the current one rather than reusing an old scan.
The fee for the Civil Services (Preliminary) examination is Rs 100, payable online or through an SBI cash challan. Female, SC, ST and persons-with-benchmark-disability candidates are fully exempt and pay nothing.
Only the matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent certificate is accepted by UPSC as proof of date of birth. Every entry in the application — name spelling included — should match that certificate exactly, because mismatches surface at the detailed application and document-verification stages.
