YouTube chapters generator and timestamp checker

Paste your timestamps and the builder reads them in almost any format, checks them against YouTube's manual-chapter rules - the first is 00:00, there are at least three, each chapter is at least ten seconds, and they go up in order - and gives you a clean list to paste into your description.

How to add chapters to a YouTube video

  • Open the video in YouTube Studio and edit the description.
  • Add a list of timestamps and titles, one per line, starting with 00:00.
  • Include at least three timestamps in ascending order.
  • Make every chapter at least ten seconds long.
  • Save. Chapters appear on the progress bar once YouTube processes the change.

Why chapters do not show

  • The first timestamp is 0:05 or 0:10 instead of 00:00.
  • There are only one or two timestamps.
  • Two timestamps are less than ten seconds apart.
  • A timestamp is out of order or past the end of the video.
  • The channel has an active Community Guidelines strike, or the video is not eligible.

Writing chapter titles people use

Name each chapter for what happens in it ("Setting up the mic", not "Part 2"). Viewers use chapters to skip to the part they need, and Google can show chapter titles as key moments in search results.
