AltF Minutes
Turn a meeting transcript into minutes
Paste a transcript from Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, or open a .vtt or .srt caption file, and AltF Minutes pulls out the key points, decisions, action items with owners and due dates, open questions and risks. It works by matching words and patterns in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is rewritten.

Transcript to meeting minutes
Paste a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams transcript, a caption file, or rough notes. You get the key points, decisions, action items with owners and due dates, open questions and risks, all quoted from your text.
Speaker lines like "Name: text" and timestamps from caption files are recognised automatically.
Your transcript is processed by JavaScript in this tab. It is not uploaded, stored or sent to AltFTool or anyone else. How it works
Where to get the transcript
- Zoom: cloud recording with audio transcript, then download the .vtt file.
- Microsoft Teams: turn on transcription, then download the transcript from the meeting chat or recap.
- Google Meet: turn on transcripts (on supported plans); the transcript is saved as a Google Doc you can copy.
- Any caption file (.vtt or .srt) or your own typed notes also work.
How the extraction works
- Caption clean-up: WEBVTT headers, cue numbers, timestamps like [00:12:03] and markers like (inaudible) are removed. "Name 10:02 AM" header lines from Teams or Meet become speaker labels.
- Speakers: a line that starts with a name and a colon ("Priya: ...") is a speaker turn. Word share per speaker is counted from those turns.
- Decisions: sentences with cue words such as agreed, decided, approved, confirmed, signed off, going with or motion carried.
- Actions: sentences with will, I'll, need to, follow up, send, prepare, review, owner or due, and requests like "Omar, can you ...?". Negations such as won't are skipped.
- Owners: an explicit "Owner: X" or @mention, a known speaker's name before will/needs to, the speaker themself for "I'll ...", or Team for "we will".
- Due dates: by/before/on followed by a weekday, a date, end of day/week/month, tomorrow, next week, EOD or ASAP.
- Key points: sentences scored by decision and risk words, recurring topic words and position (meeting opening and wrap-up). The top five are shown in their original order.
Why no AI
AI summarisers rewrite what people said and need your transcript on someone's server. AltF Minutes only quotes sentences from your text, so you can trust every line came from the meeting, and the transcript never leaves your device. The trade-off: it cannot infer what was not said, so check owners and dates before sending.
Transcript to minutes: questions and answers
Does it work with Teams transcripts that put the name on its own line?
Yes. A line like "Priya Shah 10:02 AM" followed by the text is turned into a speaker turn for Priya Shah.
Is there a size limit?
Opened files are capped at 2 MB, which is many hours of transcript. Pasted text has no fixed limit, but very long meetings are easier to review in parts.
Can it summarise in other languages?
Cue words are English only for now, so other languages will show speakers and word counts but few decisions or actions.
What to put in meeting minutes, and what to leave out
Include
- Meeting name, date, time and place or link
- Who chaired and who took the notes
- Attendees and apologies (and quorum, for boards)
- The purpose or agenda, item by item
- A short summary of each discussion, not a transcript
- Every decision, worded exactly as agreed (motions with mover, seconder and vote for boards)
- Action items with one owner and a due date each
- Open questions and parked topics
- Date of the next meeting
Leave out
- Word-for-word chatter and side conversations
- Personal opinions, jokes or emotional remarks
- Who said what in a heated debate, unless the record requires it
- Confidential or legal advice that belongs in a separate privileged record
- Guesses about owners or deadlines nobody actually stated
