Resume Keyword Checker

The AltF Career resume keyword checker compares the words and two-word phrases in a job description with your resume and lists what matches and what is missing, ranked by how often the posting repeats them. It is a plain text comparison that runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and it does not imitate any employer's applicant tracking system or predict whether you will be shortlisted.

How to use the resume keyword checker

  1. 1

Copy the full job description, including the requirements and responsibilities sections.

  2. 2

Paste it into the job description box, then paste the plain text of your resume.

  3. 3

Read the missing keywords first: they are sorted by how often the posting repeats them.

  4. 4

Add the ones that honestly describe your experience to your skills, summary or bullet points.

  5. 5

Run the check again and stop when the important terms are covered. Do not paste keywords you cannot back up in an interview.

Resume keyword checker FAQ

Is this an ATS checker?

It checks one thing an applicant tracking system search also relies on: whether your resume contains the words the job description uses. It does not reproduce any specific vendor's ranking, parsing or scoring, and no free tool can, because each employer configures its own system. Treat the match figure as a coverage guide, not a pass mark.

Is my resume uploaded anywhere?

No. The comparison runs in JavaScript in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to AltFTool or any third party, and nothing is saved unless you use your browser's own copy or print.

What match percentage should I aim for?

There is no official threshold. A practical approach is to make sure every hard skill, tool and qualification the posting repeats is present where it is true for you, and to ignore generic words. A higher number from stuffing words you cannot discuss will not help in an interview.

Why are some words ignored?

Common English words and generic job-ad filler such as 'team', 'role', 'work' and 'candidate' are filtered out so the list focuses on skills, tools and qualifications.
