About this tool
Every record to update after relocating in India — Aadhaar, voter roll, RC, bank KYC, utilities — with the statutory deadlines dated.
The Address Change Checklist India lists every record that has to carry your new address after a move within India, grouped from identity documents through banking, utilities, work and everyday accounts, and filtered by whether you own a vehicle, rent, invest, or run a business. Three entries carry a hard statutory window and are dated from the day you moved: the vehicle RC intimation within 30 days under Section 49 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the GST amendment in Form GST REG-14 within 15 days under Rule 19(1) of the CGST Rules, 2017, and a company's registered-office notice in e-Form INC-22 within 30 days under Section 12(4) of the Companies Act, 2013. Everything else is ordered by practical priority, starting with Aadhaar because most other updates accept it as proof of address.
Open Address Change Checklist India on AltFTool — it loads instantly in your browser.
Set 'Date the address changed' and 'Today', then tick everything that applies under 'Which of these apply?' — 'I own a registered vehicle', 'I am renting the new place', 'I have a GST registration' and the rest.
'Statutory deadlines' dates the 30-day vehicle RC intimation under Section 49 and the 15-day GST REG-14 amendment from the day you moved, and shows the days left on each.
Work down the grouped checklist, ticking each record as you update it, then press 'Copy checklist' to take the remaining items with you.
The 30-day and 15-day statutory windows are shown as real dates with days remaining.
Tenant verification, demat, GST and school records appear only if they apply.
Each entry names the portal or form — myAadhaar, Form 8, Form 33 on Parivahan, Form GST REG-14.
30 days. Section 49 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 requires the registered owner to intimate a change of residence to the registering authority within 30 days, and the intimation is made in Form 33 under Rule 54 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, now filed through parivahan.gov.in. Leaving it stale also complicates insurance claims and means challan notices go to the old address.
Aadhaar. Most other updates — bank KYC, PAN, gas, electricity, school admission — accept an updated Aadhaar as proof of address, so doing it first removes a blocker from everything downstream. Update it on myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in with a valid proof-of-address document, then move on to the electoral roll (Form 8), your banks, and the vehicle RC if you own one.
File Form 8 for shifting of residence on voters.eci.gov.in or through the Voter Helpline app, attaching proof of the new address. Since the Election Commission consolidated the forms in 2022, Form 8 covers shifting both within a constituency and to a different one; the separate Form 8A is no longer used. The change appears when the roll for the new constituency is next updated.
Yes, within 15 days. Rule 19(1) of the CGST Rules, 2017 requires an application for amendment in Form GST REG-14 within 15 days of any change in the particulars of registration, and the principal place of business is a core field, so the change goes to the officer for approval with proof of the new premises. This is general information — check the position with your chartered accountant for your own registration.
