Find content across apps and manage installed Smart Hub apps
Universal Guide searches and recommends content across multiple installed streaming apps at once, while Smart Hub's Apps screen is where apps get installed, updated, rearranged, or removed.
What you should know
- Press the Home button and select Universal Guide to browse recommendations pulled from connected streaming apps.
- Use the search icon in Universal Guide to find a title across apps and see which services carry it, including price comparisons where available.
- Go to Smart Hub > Apps to install new apps, and select an app then More to update, move, or uninstall it.
- Enable Auto Update for apps under Settings > Support > Software Update > Auto Update (or within the Apps screen settings) so installed apps stay current automatically.
Why it matters
With content spread across many streaming apps, Universal Guide saves time by answering "where can I watch this" in one search instead of checking each app individually, while keeping Smart Hub apps updated avoids the sign-in errors and crashes that come from running an outdated app version.
Best practices
- Rearrange frequently used apps to the front of the Smart Hub row for quicker access.
- Periodically remove unused apps to keep Smart Hub's storage and load times snappy.
- Keep app auto-updates enabled so streaming services don't unexpectedly stop working after a service-side change.
Common problems and fixes
- An app is missing from Universal Guide's search results
- Confirm the app is installed and signed in under Smart Hub > Apps — Universal Guide only surfaces content from apps that are installed and connected to an account.
- An app crashes or won't open
- Select the app in Smart Hub > Apps, choose More, and use Reinstall or check for an available update before assuming it's a network issue.
Tips and tricks
- Holding the Select button on an app icon opens a quick menu to move or remove it without going through the full Apps management screen.
Frequently asked questions
Does Universal Guide let me watch content directly, or just find it?
Selecting a title in Universal Guide launches the source app to play it — Universal Guide itself is a discovery and search layer, not a separate player.
