Route audio to speakers, soundbars, or Bluetooth headphones
The TV's Sound Output setting decides whether audio plays through the built-in speakers, an HDMI-ARC/optical soundbar, or a paired Bluetooth speaker or headphones — including pairing two Bluetooth devices at once on supported models.
What you should know
- Go to Settings > Sound > Sound Output and choose TV Speaker, an HDMI/optical device, or Bluetooth Speaker List.
- To pair Bluetooth audio, select Bluetooth Speaker List, then Add New Device and put the speaker or headphones into pairing mode.
- Use Settings > Sound > Sound Output > Dual Audio (on supported models) to play through the TV speakers and Bluetooth audio at the same time.
- For a soundbar over HDMI-ARC/eARC, make sure Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) is enabled under Settings > General > External Device Manager so volume can be controlled with the TV remote.
Bluetooth audio has a small amount of lag versus wired connections, which can be noticeable when lip-syncing dialogue during fast-moving scenes or live sports.
Why it matters
Getting sound routing right is what makes a soundbar or wireless headphones actually work with the TV instead of fighting for the audio output, and it's one of the most common post-setup support questions for new TV owners.
Best practices
- Prefer HDMI-eARC over optical when available for higher-quality, lossless audio formats like Dolby Atmos.
- Re-pair Bluetooth headphones each viewing session if the TV doesn't automatically reconnect, since some models don't remember Bluetooth audio devices between power cycles.
- Keep Anynet+ enabled so a single remote can manage both TV and soundbar volume.
Common problems and fixes
- No sound after connecting a soundbar via HDMI-ARC
- Confirm the soundbar is plugged into the HDMI port labeled ARC/eARC and that Sound Output is set to that HDMI device rather than TV Speaker.
- Bluetooth headphones pair but audio cuts out
- Move closer to the TV to rule out interference, and check that no other Bluetooth device is simultaneously connected under Bluetooth Speaker List.
Tips and tricks
- Dual Audio mode is useful for keeping the TV speakers on for household members while a viewer wears Bluetooth headphones at a comfortable volume.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use two Bluetooth speakers at once?
Only on models that support Dual Audio Bluetooth pairing — check Settings > Sound > Sound Output for the option; older models support only one connected Bluetooth device at a time.
