What is a kanban board?
A kanban board makes work visible: every task is a card, and cards move left to right as they progress. This template has the four columns most small teams need, with sticky notes you can drag between them. It is a lightweight board for a personal project, a study plan or a small team that does not need a full project tool.
When to use it
- Tracking a personal or small-team project at a glance.
- Running a short sprint or a workshop where everyone sees the same board.
- Spotting bottlenecks: a crowded column shows where work is stuck.
How to make a kanban board in SketchFlow
- Step 1: Open the kanban template in SketchFlow.
- Step 2: Rewrite the sticky notes as your own tasks; add more with N or Ctrl/Cmd+D.
- Step 3: Drag cards between the column frames as work moves forward.
- Step 4: Colour cards by type (for example blue for features, red for bugs) from the properties panel.
- Step 5: Your board saves in this browser automatically; export a PNG for a status update.
Tips for a better result
- Limit work in progress — three cards in 'In progress' per person is plenty.
- Write tasks small enough to finish in a day or two.
- Clear the Done column weekly so the board stays readable.
Questions about this template
What columns should a kanban board have?
The minimum is To do, Doing and Done. Many teams add Review or Blocked. Use whatever stages your work really passes through.
Is a whiteboard kanban as good as a dedicated tool?
For a small or personal board, yes: it is quick and flexible. For assignments, due dates and notifications across a large team, a dedicated project tool fits better.
Will my kanban board be saved?
Yes, in this browser's local storage, as you work. Export a .sketchflow file if you want a backup or to move it to another device.
