How to make a comic book text

  1. Type the sound effect

Enter a short, loud word or phrase. The lettering resizes and wraps itself so it always fits inside the shape.

  2. Pick the burst

Choose a star burst, a jagged shout bubble, a classic speech bubble or a thought cloud, then a colour scheme from classic red and yellow to noir ink.

  3. Add depth and attitude

Set the 3D depth and tilt, choose Impact, heavy or hand-lettered type, and pick halftone dots, action rays or both behind it.

  4. Kapow and download

Add a caption such as “Meanwhile…”, press Kapow for the pop animation, then download a PNG or JPG or share a link.

Ideas for your comic book text

  • Birthday cards and party invitations with a comic twist
  • Reaction images for group chats and social media
  • Classroom displays and comic-writing lessons
  • Superhero-themed party decorations and banners
  • Spooky Halloween sound effects like EEEK! and BOO!
  • Thumbnails and headers for videos and blog posts

Tips for a better result

  • One or two short words read best: keep the sound effect under twelve letters for the biggest type.
  • A slight negative tilt with medium 3D depth gives the most classic comic look.
  • Use speech bubbles for dialogue and star bursts for impacts, just like real comic artists.

FAQ

Comic Book Text questions

Is the comic book text generator free?

Yes. Make as many comic effects as you like and download them as PNG or JPG for free, with no sign-up and no watermark beyond a small site credit.

Can I make a speech bubble instead of a burst?

Yes. Choose Speech bubble or Thought cloud as the shape. Bubbles switch to a white fill with coloured lettering, like dialogue in a real comic.

What fonts does it use?

It uses fonts already on your device, such as Impact, Arial Black and Comic Sans, so nothing is downloaded and the image exports cleanly. Exact letter shapes can vary a little between devices.

Can I remove the caption box or the panel border?

Yes. Switch off Caption box or Panel border in the Extras section to get just the burst on its background.

What size is the downloaded image?

Downloads are three times the on-screen size in a 4:3 panel shape, sharp enough for social posts, slides and small prints.
