Tyre cost per kilometre is the fitted price of a full set divided by the distance that set actually lasts, and it is the only fair way to compare a cheap tyre against a premium one. This calculator works out cost per km and cost per 10,000 km for two options, adds the fuel-cost difference when you supply each tyre's real-world km/l, and returns the break-even life the costlier-per-km option would need to reach to draw level.

Divide the fitted cost of the complete set by the distance it lasts: (price per tyre x number of tyres + fitting and balancing charges) / expected life in km. A set of four tyres at Rs 4,500 each with Rs 800 of fitting costs Rs 18,800; over 45,000 km that is Rs 0.42 per km, or Rs 4,178 per 10,000 km.
Often, but only if the extra life outweighs the extra price. A Rs 25,600 fitted set lasting 65,000 km costs Rs 0.394 per km, beating a Rs 18,800 set that lasts 45,000 km at Rs 0.418 per km. Flip it around and the cheap set would need to reach about 47,700 km to match — so the decision turns entirely on the life figure you believe.
Mainstream passenger car tyres typically deliver 40,000-60,000 km, performance and soft-compound tyres considerably less, and long-life touring tyres more. Age matters too: most tyre makers advise replacement at six years from the moulded DOT date and no later than ten, whatever the remaining tread. The legal minimum tread depth in India is 1.6 mm.
Yes — rolling resistance is roughly 4-7% of the energy a car uses, so a low-rolling-resistance tyre can shift real-world consumption by a few percent. At Rs 100 per litre, moving from 18.0 to 18.4 km/l saves about Rs 0.12 per km, which on a high-mileage vehicle can exceed the entire tyre price difference. Use your own measured km/l rather than a brochure figure.
