About this tool
Gujarat professional tax by monthly salary band, with the Rs 12,000 exemption limit and the Section 16(iii) tax saving.
The Professional Tax Calculator Gujarat returns the professional tax deductible in Gujarat for a monthly salary under the Gujarat Panchayats, Municipal Corporations and State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1976, as notified with effect from 1 April 2022. The state now has two bands only: nil up to Rs 12,000 a month and a flat Rs 200 a month above it, a maximum of Rs 2,400 a year. It also shows the income tax the payment saves under Section 16(iii) for anyone taxed on the old regime.
Open Professional Tax Calculator Gujarat on AltFTool — it loads instantly in your browser.
Enter 'Monthly salary or wage (INR)' and 'Months employed in Gujarat this year' (1-12) - part years are prorated.
Pick 'Your old-regime slab rate' (or 'No tax / new regime') and tick 'Notified exemption applies' if one covers you.
Read 'Professional tax payable' with the slab, the Rs 200 monthly deduction, the Section 16(iii) saving and net cost - your row is highlighted in the Gujarat slab table; press 'Copy result'.
Uses the simplified two-band schedule, not the older four-slab table.
Nets the Section 16(iii) income tax saving off the amount deducted.
Counts only the months actually worked at a Gujarat location.
Nil for a monthly salary up to Rs 12,000 and a flat Rs 200 a month above that, giving an annual maximum of Rs 2,400. The two-band structure replaced the earlier multi-slab table with effect from 1 April 2022.
The state notification effective 1 April 2022 raised the exemption limit to Rs 12,000 a month and removed the intermediate slabs, so employees earning between roughly Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000 who previously paid Rs 80 or Rs 150 a month now pay nothing.
Yes, professional tax actually paid is deductible from salary income under Section 16(iii) of the Income-tax Act, but only under the old regime. At a 30% slab plus 4% cess, a Rs 2,400 payment saves about Rs 749 of income tax; the deduction is not available under Section 115BAC.
The tax deducted for a month is payable by the 15th of the following month. Employers also need a registration certificate under the Act, and persons carrying on a profession on their own account need an enrolment certificate; confirm the current filing calendar with your compliance adviser.
