About this tool
Work out cost per tablet, per dose, per day and for the full course from the pack price, and compare a brand against a generic.
Cost per dose is the pack price divided by the tablets in the pack, multiplied by the tablets taken each time — the only figure that lets you compare two medicines sold in different pack sizes. This calculator turns a printed pack price into cost per tablet, per dose, per day, per month and for the whole course, works out how many whole packs the course needs and what is left over, and puts a second pack or a generic alongside it on the same per-tablet basis.

Per-tablet cost makes different pack sizes and brands directly comparable.
Shows the packs you actually have to buy and the leftovers you pay for.
Projects a daily cost to a monthly and yearly figure for ongoing medicines.
Divide the pack price by the number of tablets in the pack. A strip of 15 tablets priced at Rs 250 works out to Rs 16.67 a tablet, so a twice-daily dose of one tablet costs Rs 33.33 a day.
It varies enormously by molecule, and the honest comparison is per tablet rather than per pack. Rather than relying on a headline percentage, put both pack prices and both pack sizes into the calculator — the per-tablet figure and the whole-course total show the real difference for your specific medicine.
Yes. The maximum retail price printed on the pack is inclusive of all taxes, so the figure on the strip is what you can be charged at most. Pharmacies may sell below MRP but not above it.
A larger pack usually lowers the cost per tablet, but it only saves money if you will use it before the expiry date and the dose is not about to change. For a short antibiotic course the smaller pack is often cheaper overall, and for a stable long-term medicine the larger pack usually wins. Check with the pharmacist that the larger pack is the same formulation.
