Egypt offers four practical ways in and they cover different things: a USD 25 visa on arrival bought in cash at the airport bank kiosk, a USD 25 single-entry or USD 60 multiple-entry e-visa applied for online, and a free 15-day permission for visitors who stay inside the South Sinai resort area of Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba and St Catherine. This checklist prices each route for your party, tests six months of passport validity from your arrival date, and warns when the free Sinai permission will not cover the trip you have planned.

The single-entry tourist visa has been USD 25, available either on arrival as a sticker bought at the bank kiosk before immigration, or in advance on the official Egyptian e-visa portal. A multiple-entry e-visa valid six months has been USD 60. Both permit a stay of up to 30 days. Use only the government site — lookalike agencies charge several times the real fee.
Visitors arriving at Sharm El Sheikh, Taba or St Catherine and staying inside the South Sinai resort area can be given a free entry permission for up to 15 days. It covers Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba and St Catherine and nothing else, so a trip to Cairo, Luxor or the mainland Red Sea coast needs a full visa. A short list of nationalities, including Gulf Cooperation Council citizens, is visa-free everywhere.
At least six months from the date you enter, and a blank page for the visa sticker. Airlines check it at the gate, so a passport that expires part-way through the trip can stop you boarding even before Egyptian immigration sees it.
Drones may not be brought in without prior permission and are seized at customs. Egyptian pounds may not be carried across the border above EGP 5,000, and foreign currency above the equivalent of USD 10,000 must be declared. Photography near military and government installations is restricted, whatever your visa.
