Restrict channels, apps, and content ratings with a PIN

Parental Guidance lets you block specific channels, restrict programs above a chosen content rating, and lock individual apps behind a 4-digit PIN.

What you should know

  • Go to Settings (gear icon) > All Settings > Safety > Lock, and turn on Lock to enable content restrictions.
  • Set or reset the 4-digit PIN in the same menu — the factory default on most LG TVs is 0000 unless it was changed during setup.
  • Under Parental Guidance, choose a content rating (for example, TV-PG or TV-14); anything above that rating requires the PIN to view.
  • Use Channel Locking to block specific channels by number, and App Locking to require the PIN before opening selected apps.

Write down or securely store a custom PIN — if it's forgotten, resetting locks typically requires a factory reset of the TV.

Why it matters

Streaming apps have their own separate content ratings and profile controls, so relying only on an app's built-in kids mode leaves live TV and other apps unrestricted — the TV-level Parental Guidance lock covers all inputs and channels in one place.

Best practices

  • Change the PIN from the default 0000 immediately after enabling Lock.
  • Combine App Locking with each streaming app's own parental controls (like Netflix or YouTube profiles) for layered protection.

Common problems and fixes

Forgot the parental control PIN
Contact LG support with the TV's model and serial number for a reset path, since most models require a full factory reset if the PIN is lost.
A locked app still opens without asking for the PIN
Confirm the app is individually checked under Safety > Lock > App Locking — enabling Lock overall doesn't lock every app by default.

Tips and tricks

  • Input Locking under the same Safety menu can block an entire HDMI input, useful for restricting a game console without touching channel or app settings.

Frequently asked questions

Do content locks apply to LG Channels as well as cable/antenna channels?

Yes — Channel Locking and rating restrictions apply to LG Channels and any tuned live TV source, not just antenna or cable inputs.
