View and Manage Active Subscriptions
The Subscriptions screen lists every active and expired subscription tied to your Apple ID, letting you review billing dates and amounts, upgrade or downgrade plans, and cancel directly.
How to open Subscriptions
- Open Settings → tap your name
- Tap Subscriptions
- Review active and expired subscriptions
- Tap a subscription to view details or change its plan
- Tap Cancel Subscription to stop future renewals
What you should know
- Shows renewal date, price, and billing cycle for each active subscription
- Includes subscriptions shared with family members through Family Sharing
- Cancelling stops future renewals but doesn't refund the current billing period
- Expired and cancelled subscriptions remain listed for reference
Why it matters
Subscription creep—small recurring charges that pile up unnoticed—is one of the most common sources of unwanted spending, and this screen is the single place to audit every App Store-billed subscription in one pass. It matters especially for families sharing subscriptions, where it's easy to lose track of what's active across multiple apps and services. Reviewing it periodically is a low-effort way to catch forgotten free-trial conversions before they renew.
Best practices
- Review the Subscriptions list monthly to catch unused services before renewal
- Cancel before the renewal date shown, since cancelling doesn't provide a partial refund
- Check which subscriptions are shared with family members to avoid duplicate purchases
- Use the price-change notifications Apple sends before enabling silent renewal at a new rate
Common problems and fixes
- A subscription is missing from the list
- It may be billed outside the App Store (directly through the developer's website) and won't appear here
- Cancelled subscription still shows as active
- Confirm the cancellation date shown; access typically continues until the current billing period ends
- Can't find where to cancel
- Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions and tap the subscription to cancel
Tips and tricks
- Set a recurring calendar reminder a few days before annual subscriptions renew
- Use free trials cautiously—set a reminder to cancel before the trial converts if unwanted
Frequently asked questions
Does cancelling refund the current period?
No, you generally retain access until the end of the paid period, with no partial refund.
Can family members see each other's subscriptions?
Only subscriptions explicitly shared through Family Sharing are visible to the group.
Will I be notified before a price increase?
Yes, Apple requires developers to notify subscribers before a price change takes effect.
