Connect to Wi-Fi or use the built-in data plan

The AI Pin connects over Wi-Fi and can also use an optional built-in data plan (eSIM), which lets it work independently without being paired to a phone.

What you should know

  • Add a Wi-Fi network from your Cosmos account or through the on-device voice setup flow.
  • If you've activated the optional data plan, the Pin can send and receive without any nearby Wi-Fi network.
  • Check your current connection type and data plan status from your Cosmos web account.
  • Switch between Wi-Fi and the data plan automatically — the Pin uses whichever connection is available.

Why it matters

Because the Pin is designed to work standalone, its connection method directly determines whether features like queries and communication work away from home — understanding Wi-Fi versus the data plan helps avoid unexpected gaps in coverage.

Best practices

  • Keep at least one trusted Wi-Fi network saved in your account for use at home or work.
  • Check your data plan status periodically in your Cosmos account if you rely on it away from Wi-Fi.

Common problems and fixes

Pin isn't responding away from home
Confirm whether you have an active data plan; without Wi-Fi or a data plan, the Pin can't reach Cosmos for most features.
Wi-Fi network won't save
Double-check the network password and try re-adding the network from your Cosmos account instead of the device.

Tips and tricks

  • If you don't need the standalone data plan, connecting to Wi-Fi whenever possible can help conserve battery.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a data plan to use the Pin?

No — the data plan is optional. The Pin will work over Wi-Fi, but the data plan lets it work independently when you're away from a Wi-Fi network.
