What is an org chart?

An org chart shows who reports to whom. This template has three levels — one lead, three department heads and two teams under each — joined by elbow connectors so the hierarchy stays tidy as you add people. Use it for a company, a club, a volunteer group or a school project.

When to use it

  • Onboarding new people so they know who does what.
  • Planning a reorganisation or new hires.
  • Documenting roles in a club, society or volunteer group.

How to make an org chart in SketchFlow

  1. Step 1: Open the org chart template in SketchFlow.
  2. Step 2: Double-click each box and type a name and role on two lines.
  3. Step 3: Add a person by duplicating a box (Ctrl/Cmd+D) and drawing an elbow arrow from their manager.
  4. Step 4: Use auto layout from the command palette (Ctrl/Cmd+/) to tidy a chart that has grown messy.
  5. Step 5: Export as PNG or SVG for your handbook or slides.

Tips for a better result

  • Put the role first if people change more often than positions.
  • Use one colour per department.
  • For big organisations, make one chart per department and link them.

Questions about this template

What should an org chart include?

At minimum each person's name, role and manager. Some teams add department colours, locations or open positions.

Can I add photos to the org chart?

Yes. Press I to insert an image from your device, then place it next to the person's box.

Does the chart stay private?

Yes. The board is stored in your browser, not on a server. It only leaves your device if you export it or copy a share link.
