What is a brainstorm sticky board?
Good brainstorms separate generating ideas from judging them. This board starts with a single 'How might we…' question, then gives you three clusters to sort ideas into once they are on the board: quick wins, bigger bets and open questions. Sticky notes keep each idea small and easy to move.
When to use it
- Kicking off a project, feature or campaign with a group.
- Running a workshop where you need lots of ideas quickly.
- Thinking through a problem on your own without a blank page.
How to make a brainstorm sticky board in SketchFlow
- Step 1: Open the brainstorm template in SketchFlow.
- Step 2: Rewrite the question at the top as 'How might we…' plus your problem.
- Step 3: Add one idea per sticky note (N) anywhere on the board — no judging yet.
- Step 4: Drag notes into the three clusters, merging duplicates as you go.
- Step 5: Export a PNG of the result, or share a link so others can add to it.
Tips for a better result
- Aim for quantity first; set a timer for ten minutes.
- Write ideas as verbs: 'Send a welcome video' instead of 'Video'.
- Vote by adding a small dot next to favourites before deciding.
Questions about this template
What is a 'How might we' question?
It is a way of framing a problem as an open opportunity, for example 'How might we halve onboarding time?'. It invites many answers instead of one.
How do I add sticky notes in SketchFlow?
Press N or pick the sticky note from the toolbar, then click the board. Type straight away; drag the note to move it.
Is there a limit to how many notes I can add?
There is no fixed limit — the canvas is infinite. Very large boards may feel slower on older devices.
