Lean canvas generator
The lean canvas generator gives you the nine standard lean canvas blocks, from Problem to Unfair advantage, each with a short prompt. It shows how many blocks are filled and lists the missing ones. It checks whether a block has content, not whether the content is right.
- Free, no sign-up
- Runs in your browser
- No AI guesswork
- Export to Markdown
How to use the lean canvas generator
- 1
Start with the problem and segments
Write the top one to three problems in the customer's words and name the early adopters who have them.
- 2
Fill the value proposition and solution
Write one sentence on why you are different, then the smallest solution for each problem.
- 3
Add channels, revenue, costs and metrics
Note how you will reach the first customers, the price you will test, the main costs and the few numbers that show it works.
- 4
Check what is missing
Read the completeness count and the list of empty blocks. Leave Unfair advantage blank if you do not have one yet.
- 5
Export or print
Download the canvas as Markdown or JSON, or print it to share with a co-founder or mentor.
How it works
- Nine blocks: Problem, Customer segments, Unique value proposition, Solution, Channels, Revenue streams, Cost structure, Key metrics and Unfair advantage.
- A block counts as filled once it holds at least 8 characters after trimming spaces.
- Completeness is filled blocks divided by 9, rounded to a whole percentage, with the empty blocks listed by name.
- The canvas is saved with the idea in this browser and included in the Markdown export.
Worked example: a half-finished canvas
Problem, Customer segments, Unique value proposition, Solution and Channels each have a full sentence.
Revenue streams says only "$12/mo" (6 characters) and Key metrics says "Paid" (4 characters), so neither reaches the 8-character minimum.
Cost structure and Unfair advantage are empty.
Result: 5 of 9 blocks filled, 56%, with Revenue streams, Cost structure, Key metrics and Unfair advantage listed as missing.
What the lean canvas generator does not do
- Completeness only checks that a block has text. It does not judge whether the text is accurate or specific.
- A full canvas is a set of guesses until experiments back them up.
- There is no shared editing; the canvas lives in one browser unless you export it.
