TXT record lookup with every record explained

A TXT lookup returns the free-text records at a name. DomainOps labels each one it recognises (SPF, Google Search Console, Microsoft 365, Meta, Apple, Atlassian, Stripe, OpenAI and more), so you can confirm a new verification record is live and spot old ones from services you no longer use.

Confirming a verification record

  • Add the record exactly as the service shows it, at the host it names (often @ for the bare domain).
  • Look it up here. If it does not appear, check you edited DNS at the provider listed in the NS lookup.
  • Long values may be split into several quoted strings; DomainOps joins them back together.
  • Click verify in the service only after the record shows here; resolvers cache misses too.

Clean-up

Verification records are harmless but they reveal which services an organisation uses. Remove ones for services you have left, and never publish two SPF records: merge them into one.

TXT record lookup: questions and answers

Where do I check a _dmarc or DKIM TXT record?

Type the full name: _dmarc.example.com for DMARC, or selector._domainkey.example.com for DKIM. The Email DNS tab reads both automatically.

Why is my TXT record not showing?

The usual causes are editing DNS at the wrong provider, adding the domain name twice in the host field (example.com.example.com), or a cached negative answer that lasts as long as the zone's SOA minimum TTL.

AltFTool does not store the domains or addresses you check. DNS lookups in the DNS, compare, email and IP tools run from your browser; registration, report and certificate checks pass through AltFTool's server and keep nothing.
