DevOps & Cloud Jobs in the USA
DevOps and cloud jobs keep software running reliably and securely at scale. Cloud engineers and architects design infrastructure on platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. DevOps and platform engineers automate how code is built, tested and deployed, and site reliability engineers (SREs) measure uptime, respond to incidents and remove the causes of repeat failures. Systems and network administrators, and IT support specialists, remain the backbone of many organizations and are a common entry path into this field. Employers include software companies, banks, retailers, universities and government, plus consultancies that manage infrastructure for clients. Infrastructure as code, containers and monitoring are now expected skills, and vendor certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Azure Administrator can help you get past screening. Many roles include an on-call rotation, so ask how incidents are handled and how often you would be paged before you accept an offer.

DevOps & Cloud pay: how to check what a job pays
Pay rises with cloud certifications, on-call responsibility and seniority. The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook covers network and computer systems administrators and computer network architects; compare those figures with the range stated in each posting.

Watch out for job scams
Real employers never charge you to apply. Walk away if you see any of these:
- You are asked to pay for training, equipment, a background check or an application fee.
- They send a check and ask you to buy equipment from their vendor or send part of it back.
- The 'job' is receiving money into your account, or packages at home, and forwarding them.
- You get an offer without a real phone or video interview, often after a chat-only exchange.
DevOps & Cloud jobs: frequently asked questions
How do I move from IT support into DevOps or cloud?
Learn Linux, scripting and one cloud platform, then automate something real at your current job, such as user provisioning or backups. A cloud certification plus a small infrastructure-as-code project on GitHub makes a credible step up.
What is the difference between DevOps and SRE?
Both work on automation and reliability. SRE roles usually focus more on measuring and improving uptime with service-level objectives and incident response, while DevOps roles lean toward build and deployment pipelines. Many companies use the titles interchangeably.
Do cloud certifications help me get hired?
They can help you pass resume screening and show you know a platform's basics. Employers still test hands-on skills in interviews, so pair a certification with practical projects.
Are DevOps jobs remote?
Many are remote or hybrid because the work is done in the cloud. On-call rotations are common, so ask about the schedule and compensation for after-hours work.
