Weighted scorecard: compare products on what matters to you

Pick up to four options, decide how much each criterion matters and rate them 1 to 5. You get a weighted score out of 10, a ranking, a per-criterion comparison and an honest note when it is too close to call.

1. What matters, and how much

Pick a buying guide to load its criteria and weights, or write your own.

Weights always add up to 100%. Move one and the rest rebalance.

Method

How it works

  1. Choose your criteria

Load the criteria and weights from one of our buying guides, or write your own. Weights always add up to 100%, so moving one rebalances the rest.

  2. Rate each option 1–5

Rate every option on every criterion. Leave one blank if you do not know yet; the score uses only what you have rated and says how complete it is.

  3. Read the weighted score

Each rating is multiplied by its weight and averaged, then shown out of 10 (all fives = 10). Gaps under 0.5 are flagged as too close to call.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How is the score out of 10 calculated?

For each option we multiply every rating (1–5) by that criterion's weight, add them up, divide by the total weight you have rated, and double it. So an option rated 5 on everything scores 10, and one rated 3 on everything scores 6.

Where do the guide weights come from?

Each buying guide explains why a criterion matters and how to check it, and suggests a weight. They are a starting point, not a verdict: change them to match how you will use the product.

Is my scorecard saved or sent anywhere?

It is saved in your browser's local storage so it is there when you come back. Nothing is sent to us. The Copy link button puts your criteria, weights, option names and ratings in the link so you can share them.

What does "too close to call" mean?

When the top two options are less than half a point apart, a single rating change would swap them. Treat them as equal and decide on price, availability, return policy or the criterion you care about most.
