Carista: what to know before you buy

Carista combines a plug-in OBD2 adapter with a smartphone app that reads diagnostic trouble codes and, on supported cars, lets you change certain vehicle settings and run some service functions. It is aimed at car owners and DIY enthusiasts. Supported features vary widely by make, model and year, and advanced features may need a subscription, so check compatibility for your exact car first.

General money-saving moves that apply to this brand. Availability changes, so confirm on the brand's site.

  1. 1

    Check compatibility first

Confirm which features work on your exact car before buying, so you don't pay for tools you can't use.

  2. 2

    Compare subscription terms

Longer subscriptions usually cost less per month. If you only need a one-off job, a short term may make more sense.

  3. 3

    Look for bundles
