Fix 'App not installed' and other APK install errors
By AltFTool Team · Updated 1 Nov 2026
Android shows a short error and hides the reason. These are the causes we see most, from most to least common.
Causes and fixes
| Error or symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| App not installed | Phone is older than the app's minimum Android | Check your version against the app page; update Android if possible |
| App not installed as package conflicts | A version signed with a different key is already installed | Uninstall the old app, then install again |
| There was a problem parsing the package | Download is incomplete or corrupted | Delete the file, download again, check the SHA-256 |
| Install button greyed out | A screen overlay or blue-light filter is on | Turn off overlays (chat bubbles, screen dimmers) and retry |
| Blocked by Play Protect | Play Protect does not know the app yet | Tap More details > Install anyway only if the checksum matches the official page |
| Not enough storage | Install needs about twice the APK size free | Free up space and retry |
| App not installed (downgrade) | A newer version is already installed | Keep the newer version, or uninstall it first |
| Nothing happens on tap | File manager cannot open .apk files | Open the file from the Files by Google app or the browser's Downloads |
Questions
Will uninstalling delete my data?
Yes, uninstalling removes the app's local data unless the app has a backup or account sync. Export anything important first.
