AltFTool vs Pixlr

Pixlr's paid ladder is built around two things: unlimited saves and AI credits. The AI half is not something a browser tool can copy — text-to-image and generative fill need server GPUs, and no amount of client-side JavaScript changes that. The saves half is different. Pixlr sells unlimited saves as a Plus feature because it hosts your projects; AltFTool never holds a project, so there is nothing to cap. Worth noting: Pixlr's privacy policy says editing happens locally and photos are not uploaded, so this is not a privacy comparison either.

  • New users get 20 AI credits, described by Pixlr as "generating 20 images using 20 credits"; a 7-day free trial adds 250 credits (Pixlr's own blog says that produces "over 60 free images")
  • AI credits expire — every paid tier states "Credits valid for 1 month": 80/month on Plus, 1,000/month on Premium, up to 10,000/month on Ultra
  • Concurrent AI generations are throttled by plan: 1 on Plus, 4 on Premium, 8 on Ultra
  • Private mode for AI generations is Premium and above; extended high-res exports and priority AI queue are Ultra-only
  • Access to all image, video and audio AI models starts at Premium ($9.99/month)

What Pixlr does better

Plenty of people should keep paying for Pixlr, and these are the reasons why.

  • Its generative AI genuinely cannot be replicated client-side: text-to-image, generative edits, video and audio models all need serious server compute, and Pixlr packages them behind a simple interface.
  • It ships everywhere — web, iOS, Android and desktop — with cloud project sync, so an edit started on a phone continues on a laptop.
  • There is a real ladder of depth: Pixlr Express for a quick crop or touch-up, the full Editor for layers and masks, plus a large library of fonts, templates, elements and animations.
  • Its own privacy policy takes a local-first position for editing — photos are "stored locally within the web browser" and "We do not upload nor store any photographs" — which is a fair claim, so we should not imply Pixlr is careless with files.

And what AltFTool does not do

  • No generative AI at all: no text-to-image, no generative fill, no AI video or audio models. This is Pixlr's core paid value and we do not compete with it.
  • No layers-and-masks editor comparable to Pixlr E, and no library of fonts, templates, elements or animations.
  • No mobile app and no cloud sync — an edit started on a phone does not continue on a laptop.

Does AltFTool generate images with AI?
No. Generative models need server GPUs and a credit system to pay for them. Pixlr's AI credits — 80/month on Plus up to 10,000 on Ultra — are buying real compute.
Is there a save limit here?
No, because there are no saved projects. Every result is downloaded directly to your device. Pixlr caps free saves because it stores your work for you.
Is Pixlr uploading my photos?
For editing, their privacy policy says no — photos are held locally in the browser. AI generation is the part that runs on their servers. We mention this because it would be easy to imply otherwise, and it would be wrong.
