The Water Tank Cleaning Planner sets how often your overhead tank or sump should be cleaned, what a clean should cost, and exactly how much bleaching powder the disinfection step needs. It starts from the standard guidance that domestic storage tanks be cleaned at least twice a year on treated municipal supply, then shortens the cycle for borewell or tanker water, concrete tanks, underground sumps and lids that do not seal. Doses are computed for a 50 mg/L chlorine target with six hours of contact, using bleaching powder at 33% available chlorine.

At least every six months on treated municipal supply, and every three to four months on borewell, tanker or open-well water. Concrete tanks, underground sumps and tanks with a loose or missing lid should be at the shorter end because silt and algae build up faster.
