Three: a Preliminary objective screening test, a descriptive Main examination, and an Interview or Personality Test. Only the mains and interview marks count towards the final merit list in most commissions — prelims marks are used only to screen candidates for the mains.
Most commissions leave roughly three to five months, because prelims results have to be declared first. The exact gap differs by state and by cycle, so take both dates from the commission's own notification and let the countdown show you the real number of days.
There is no official figure, and consistency matters more than a headline number — six focused hours every day for four months is 720 hours, while ten erratic hours for three weeks is far less. Enter the rate you can genuinely sustain and check whether the total hours cover your syllabus.
