The annual income of the whole family from all sources — salaries, business or self-employment income, agriculture, rent, pension and interest — for the relevant financial year. Monthly earnings are annualised (multiplied by 12) and one-time or seasonal income is added as an annual amount; the certifying authority may verify figures against salary slips, ITRs or a field report.
It depends on the scheme: Rs 1 lakh for Pre-Matric Minority, Rs 2 lakh for Post-Matric Minority, Rs 2.5 lakh for the Post-Matric SC and Merit-cum-Means schemes, Rs 3.5 lakh for NMMSS, Rs 4.5 lakh for the Central Sector Scheme, and Rs 8 lakh for AICTE Pragati/Saksham and the EWS certificate. These are guideline figures that governments revise by notification, so always check the current year's scheme document.
Typically the application form, a self-declaration or affidavit of family income, salary slips or Form 16 for salaried members, income proof for self-employed members, Aadhaar, a ration card or other family-member proof, address proof and a photograph. Exact lists vary by state, so confirm on your state's e-district portal before applying.
Commonly six months to one year from issue, but validity is set by each state — some issue certificates valid for the financial year. Scholarship portals usually ask for a certificate issued recently (often within the last year), so check both the state rule and the scheme's requirement.
