About this tool
Add up your furniture, appliances and cartons to get the packed volume and the smallest tempo or truck that will hold it.
This selector converts an inventory of furniture, appliances and cartons into a packed volume in cubic feet, then names the smallest goods vehicle that can carry it. It uses removal-survey cube allowances per item (a 3-seat sofa is 45 cu ft, a double bed 60 cu ft, a mixed carton 3.5 cu ft), estimates weight with the moving industry's household-goods density of 7 lb per cubic foot, and compares both against each vehicle's load body at 85% stacking efficiency. Vehicles range from a mini tempo to a 32 ft single-axle container.

Volume comes from a per-item cube sheet, not a rule of thumb tied to the number of bedrooms.
Checks the load body's cube and its rated payload, so a heavy load never gets an undersized vehicle.
Tells you exactly how many cubic feet to shed to fit the cheaper vehicle.
Usually a 14 ft or 17 ft truck. A typical 2 BHK — a double bed, a single bed, two wardrobes, a 3-seat sofa, a dining set, a fridge, a washing machine, a TV, two split ACs and about 60 cartons — comes to roughly 580 cu ft packed, which needs the 17 ft body's 607 cu ft of usable space. A lightly furnished 2 BHK under 428 cu ft fits a 14 ft truck.
By multiplying the packed cube by 7 lb per cubic foot — the constructive density the moving industry has long used for mixed household goods, equal to about 112 kg per cubic metre. So a 580 cu ft load is estimated at roughly 4,060 lb, or about 1,840 kg. Dense loads such as libraries, safes and gym equipment run well above this, so declare them separately.
No. Furniture and cartons are irregular, and you need working space and tie-down room, so about 85% of the deck cube is the practical ceiling even for a professional crew loading floor to roof. That is why a 504 cu ft 14 ft body is treated here as roughly 428 cu ft of real capacity — a figure worth applying to any volume quoted to you.
Usually yes for anything beyond a single room, because a second trip repeats the drive, the loading labour and often the parking or toll cost, while a larger body adds only a modest amount to the base rate. Two trips can still win on a very short local move where the drive is a few minutes. Ask for both quotes before deciding, and check whether the larger vehicle can actually reach and turn at both addresses.
