PMUY beneficiaries receive a targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg refill. It was introduced at ₹200 in May 2022 and raised to ₹300 in October 2023. On a cylinder priced at ₹853 that brings the effective cost down to ₹553.
Twelve refills of the 14.2 kg cylinder per household per year. The entitlement is measured in kilograms, so a household buying 5 kg cylinders gets proportionately more refills. Anything beyond the cap is bought at full market price with no DBT credit.
For most general domestic consumers the DBT transfer has been nil at prevailing market prices since mid-2020, so the price paid at the counter is the final cost. The mechanism still exists under PAHAL and can be revived, so check your bank statement after a refill rather than assuming.
An adult woman of a poor household that does not already hold an LPG connection, and that falls in one of the listed categories: SECC 2011 households, SC/ST households, PMAY-Gramin and Antyodaya Anna Yojana beneficiaries, forest dwellers, most backward classes, tea garden tribes, island residents, or a poor household self-declaring under the 14-point declaration. Ujjwala 2.0 adds a deposit-free connection with a free first refill and stove.
