About this tool
Work out when to leave for Kochi airport (COK) with hour-by-hour traffic, the Aluva metro option and airline check-in cutoffs.
This planner works backwards from a flight's scheduled departure at Cochin International Airport (COK) to the minute you should leave, allowing for how Kochi traffic changes by hour of day. It applies the check-in and bag-drop close, the boarding gate close and the airline's 2-hour domestic or 3-hour international arrival advice, then adds terminal-side time for entry, bag drop, emigration, security and the walk to the gate at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. Because Kochi Metro Line 1 ends at Aluva, about 10 km from the terminal, a metro leg is treated as fixed minutes that traffic cannot touch, with only the last stretch simulated as a drive.

Time on Line 1 is fixed minutes rather than distance at a traffic-dependent speed, so the comparison against a cab is fair.
The international plan carries a longer kerb-to-gate allowance and a separate emigration queue.
You see the latest possible departure alongside the recommended one, so you know exactly how much slack you hold.
About 28-30 km from Marine Drive or MG Road to the terminal at Nedumbassery, mostly on NH 544. It runs in roughly 45 minutes on clear night roads and can take an hour and a half in the 17:00-20:00 evening peak, with Edappally junction the worst pinch point. Fort Kochi is 42 km out and should be treated as a 90-minute-plus transfer in daylight.
Not all the way. Kochi Metro Line 1 runs from Aluva to Tripunithura, and Aluva station is about 10 km from the terminal, so you finish the journey by taxi, auto or feeder bus. The metro leg is worth taking in the evening peak because it is unaffected by road traffic, but services run only from roughly 06:00 to 22:00, which rules it out for the early-morning Gulf departures.
Three hours is the standard airline advice, and at COK it is worth taking seriously because the Gulf departures cluster in the small hours and fill Terminal 3's check-in and emigration counters at once. The binding cutoff is usually the check-in close, typically 60 minutes before departure on an international flight, with the gate closing 25 minutes before.
The roads empty out, so the drive itself gets faster, but buses, autos and many app cabs stop running, which is the real risk. Book a private car the night before and carry your ticket, since travel to catch a flight is normally allowed through. Air travel itself is not affected by a hartal, only your ability to reach the terminal.
