About this tool
See how Indian qualifications — Class 12, 3-year BA, BTech, MBBS, master's — map to the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany.
This explainer shows how Indian qualifications — from Class 10 and Class 12 through 3-year BA/BSc degrees, 4-year BTech degrees, MBBS, master's and PhD — are typically recognised in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Germany. The summaries reflect the practice of the recognised evaluators for each country: ECCTIS in the UK, NACES members like WES in the US, ECA agencies for Canada, AQF comparison in Australia, and the Anabin database with uni-assist in Germany. It is built for students and migrants planning where their credentials will carry.

Increasingly, yes. Since 2023 WES evaluates 3-year Indian bachelor's degrees from accredited (NAAC-graded) institutions as equivalent to a US bachelor's, and many US graduate schools now admit on that basis — though some programmes still prefer a 4-year degree, a master's, or a postgraduate diploma on top. Check each programme's stated policy.
Usually not directly. Under the Anabin recognition rules, Indian Class 12 alone is not a full German university entrance qualification (HZB) — most applicants must complete a one-year Studienkolleg and pass the Feststellungsprüfung, or show one year of recognised university study in India, or qualify through JEE-Advanced for direct engineering admission.
The degree is recognised, but practice rights require licensing exams: in the UK, GMC registration via PLAB (moving to the UKMLA), and in the US, ECFMG certification plus the USMLE steps followed by a residency match. No country in this comparison lets an Indian MBBS holder practise without its own assessment pathway.
A credential evaluation is a formal report by a recognised body — WES or another NACES member in the US, an ECA agency for Canadian immigration, ECCTIS statements in the UK — that maps your Indian qualification onto the destination's framework. Most US graduate schools and Canada's Express Entry require one; universities elsewhere often assess credentials in-house during admission.
