When batch mode is useful
Batch mode suits jobs where you want an overview across a set of pictures rather than a careful look at one: going through a folder of old family portraits, seeing how a series of profile photos read, preparing a classroom demonstration of how an age model behaves across many faces, or trying an idea on a small set of images before writing any code. Because nothing is uploaded, you can try it on personal photos without handing them to a service.
It is not a tool for decisions about people. A table of estimates looks precise, but every row is a guess from appearance with the same limits as a single photo: less reliable for children, older adults and some skin tones, and easily moved by light and filters.
How batch mode works
Photos are queued in the order you added them and analysed one after another, so your device only works on one at a time. Each one gets a quick single pass: the faces are detected, the largest face is estimated, and the row is filled in. To keep a batch fast, the stability check that re-runs the model on mirrored and cropped copies is skipped, which means a batch row shows one estimate rather than a range.
When you want the full picture for a particular photo, press Open on its row. The photo moves to the Photo tab and runs the complete analysis there, with the stability check, the quality meter, every face in the picture and the extra analyses.
What the table and CSV contain
The summary above the table shows how many photos were processed, how many faces were found in total and the average estimated age. Download CSV saves the table as a plain spreadsheet file you can open in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets or any data tool; the thumbnails are not included, only the text columns.
- Thumbnail and file name, so you can tell rows apart.
- Faces found in the photo.
- Estimated age and age band for the largest face.
- Gender read for the largest face, with its confidence.
- Photo quality for that face, from the same checks as the quality meter.
Performance and limits
A batch is capped at 30 photos so that a phone or an older laptop can get through it without running out of memory. Time per photo depends on your device and the image size; the first photo also waits for the face models to download once. Keep the tab open and in front while a batch runs, because browsers slow down or pause work in background tabs.
For more than 30 photos, download the CSV, press Clear and start the next batch. Very large images take longer to decode; resizing them first speeds things up without changing what the model sees much, since faces are cropped and resized anyway.
Responsible use
Batch estimates must not be used for identity checks, age verification, hiring, screening customers or any other decision about a real person. Analyse only photos you have the right to use. Clear removes every photo and result from the page's memory, and nothing was ever sent anywhere, but the CSV you download is yours to look after.
