01. Overview & Architecture
TalkNLearn operates as a real-time communications hub designed to connect individuals across different languages, cultures, and interests. Our platform operates on strict data minimization principles: we collect only what is strictly necessary to route your connection and protect users against malicious behavior.
02. Peer-to-Peer WebRTC Transmission
Video and audio calls rely on modern WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) protocol. When you are matched with a conversational partner:
- Direct media streams travel encrypted end-to-end between your browser and the partner's browser.
- Our signaling servers negotiate initial handshake parameters (ICE candidates and SDP offers) and then step back.
- Media packets do not pass through or reside on AltFTool storage clusters.
03. Camera & Microphone Permissions
To enable live video and audio, your browser will request permission to access your local camera and microphone:
- Local Control: You can mute your audio or turn off your camera feed at any instant via the control toolbar.
- Revocable: Browser permissions can be revoked at any time via your browser site settings.
- Text-Only Option: You can choose text-only chat mode without granting any hardware camera or mic access.
04. Data We Do NOT Collect
We are deeply committed to preventing profiling and commercial exploitation of user data:
We never collect or store:
- Real legal names, mailing addresses, or phone numbers
- Biometric facial scanning data or voiceprints
- Recordings of video conversations or chat transcripts
- Financial, credit card, or payment information
05. Community Protection & Abuse Prevention
To protect our community from abusive users, automated bots, and unlawful conduct:
- IP Address Rate-Limiting: Ephemeral IP hashing is utilized to detect high-frequency spam and rate-limit abusive automated connection attempts.
- Report System: When a user reports inappropriate behavior or safety violations, the offending session ID is flagged and temporary connection bans may be instituted.
- Zero Tolerance: Explicit or abusive conduct results in immediate termination of the connection and blocking of the connection origin.
06. Local Storage & Cookies
TalkNLearn uses local browser storage exclusively for user experience continuity:
- Saving your sound mute preferences and preferred audio/video input devices.
- Remembering your selected topics or interests for matchmaking filtering.
- No third-party cross-site advertising tracking cookies are planted by TalkNLearn.
07. Safety Tips for Users
When communicating with new people on any live platform, please exercise personal vigilance:
- Keep Personal Info Private: Never disclose your physical address, school/workplace, passwords, or financial details.
- Beware of External Links: Do not open suspicious external URLs or download unknown files provided by strangers.
- Use the Next / Exit Button: If an interaction makes you uncomfortable in any way, immediately click Exit or Next Partner.
