Keep your R1's firmware up to date

Rabbit periodically ships firmware updates to the R1 that improve the assistant's capabilities, fix bugs, and refine features like Push-to-Talk and the Rabbit Eye camera.

What you should know

  • The R1 checks for available updates while connected to Wi-Fi and notifies you on-screen when one is ready.
  • Updates download and install over Wi-Fi; keep the device connected and powered until the process finishes.
  • You can also check your account and device status from the Rabbit Hole dashboard at hole.rabbit.tech.
  • Restart the device after an update completes if it doesn't restart automatically, so the new firmware fully takes effect.

Don't disconnect power or Wi-Fi while an update is installing — interrupting it partway through can leave the device in an unusable state.

Why it matters

Because the R1's assistant and Large Action Model capabilities are tied closely to its firmware, staying updated is often the fastest way to get bug fixes and new functionality without doing anything more than waiting for the install to finish.

Best practices

  • Install available updates promptly rather than dismissing the notification repeatedly.
  • Keep the device on Wi-Fi periodically so it can check for and download updates in the background.

Common problems and fixes

Update notification appears but won't install
Confirm the R1 is connected to Wi-Fi and has enough battery, then retry from the update prompt.
Device feels unresponsive after an update
Give it a minute to finish any background setup, and restart it if it still seems stuck.

Tips and tricks

  • Leave the R1 plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi overnight occasionally so updates can install at a convenient time.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my Rabbit Hole connections after an update?

No — connected accounts and settings are tied to your Rabbit Hole account, not the local firmware, so they persist across updates.
