Calibrate picture quality for your room and content

Picture Mode controls the overall look of the image, while the Picture Wizard walks through a guided calibration for brightness, contrast, and color using sample scenes.

What you should know

  • Open Settings (gear icon) > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode and choose a preset such as Standard, Cinema, Vivid, or ISF Expert.
  • For a guided setup, go to Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode > Picture Wizard (also reachable during initial TV setup).
  • Follow the on-screen sample images and adjust each slider — brightness, contrast, color, and tint — until the reference scene looks correct.
  • Fine-tune further under Picture > Advanced Settings for backlight, sharpness, and motion smoothing (TruMotion) once the wizard is complete.

Why it matters

Out-of-the-box Vivid or Standard modes are tuned for bright showroom lighting, which often looks oversaturated and overly sharp at home — a few minutes with the Picture Wizard makes a noticeably more accurate, comfortable image for movies and everyday viewing.

Best practices

  • Use Cinema or Filmmaker Mode for movies and Standard for everyday TV and daytime viewing.
  • Turn TruMotion down or off for film content if you notice an artificial "soap opera" smoothing effect.
  • Re-run the Picture Wizard after moving the TV to a room with different ambient lighting.

Common problems and fixes

Picture looks too dark in a bright room
Switch Picture Mode to Standard or increase the Brightness/OLED Pixel Brightness slider under Picture > Advanced Settings.
Motion looks unnaturally smooth or "soapy"
Go to Picture > Advanced Settings > Clarity > TruMotion and set it to User, then lower or disable De-Judder.

Tips and tricks

  • Each input (game console, cable box, streaming stick) remembers its own Picture Mode, so a good calibration on one HDMI input won't carry over automatically to another.

Frequently asked questions

Does Picture Mode affect input lag for gaming?

Vivid and Cinema modes add processing that increases input lag; switch to Game Optimizer mode for the lowest latency during gameplay.
