Switch between Standard and Zoomed display views
Display Zoom scales the entire interface larger (Zoomed) or shows more content at once (Standard), changing the effective size of icons, text, and controls together.
How to open Display Zoom
- Open Settings and tap Display & Brightness.
- Scroll to the View section and tap Display Zoom.
- Choose Standard or Zoomed and preview the layout.
- Tap Set in the top corner and confirm to restart the Home Screen.
What you should know
- Found in Settings > Display & Brightness > View, below the Text Size controls.
- Zoomed enlarges on-screen elements for easier viewing at the cost of visible content per screen.
- Standard fits more apps, widgets, and content on screen at native resolution.
- Changing this setting requires a brief restart of the Home Screen.
Why it matters
Unlike Text Size, which only scales text, Display Zoom scales the entire interface proportionally, making it a good option for anyone who finds icons, buttons, and spacing too small on a larger-screen iPhone. Because it changes layout density system-wide, it directly trades visual comfort for information density, a tradeoff every user weighs differently depending on hand size, eyesight, and how they use their phone. It's especially useful on Plus and Pro Max models where the extra screen real estate can otherwise go unused by people who'd rather have bigger tap targets.
Best practices
- Try Zoomed for a full day before deciding, since some apps rearrange their layout noticeably in this mode.
- Pair with a larger Text Size only if Zoomed alone isn't enough, to avoid overly cramped app layouts.
- Revisit this setting after buying a new iPhone with a different screen size, since preferences can change with more or less display area.
Common problems and fixes
- Some apps look cropped or misaligned after switching.
- This is normal for apps not fully optimized for Zoomed mode; switch back to Standard if it's disruptive in a critical app.
- Home Screen icons lost their original grid arrangement after switching.
- Zoomed mode uses a smaller grid, so some icons move into a new page automatically; rearrange as needed.
Tips and tricks
- Preview both views directly in the settings screen before applying, since a live preview is shown for each option.
Frequently asked questions
Does Display Zoom affect screenshots or screen recordings?
Screenshots capture the interface as displayed, so Zoomed mode content appears larger in captures too.
Can Display Zoom be set per app?
No, it is a single system-wide display mode.
