Overview and setup

How it works

Every morning at 07:00 this workflow asks the free Open-Meteo forecast API for the next three days at a location you choose. Open-Meteo needs no account and no API key, so the workflow runs as soon as you import it.

The API returns the forecast as parallel arrays (dates, weather codes, temperatures, rain chance, wind). A Code node zips them into one row per day, translates the numeric weather codes into words such as "Light rain" or "Partly cloudy", and writes a short plain-text report plus a one-line subject such as "Weather for London: Overcast, high of 14 C".

The output also keeps a structured days array, so you can use the numbers later in the flow.

Set up steps

  1. Import the workflow and open Location settings.
  2. Change place, latitude and longitude to your town. You can look up coordinates on any map site.
  3. Click Execute workflow and open Build readable report to check the result.
  4. Activate the workflow to get the report every morning.

Customise it

  • Add an email, Slack or Telegram node after Build readable report and map the subject and report fields.
  • Change forecast_days in the HTTP Request node (up to 16) for a longer outlook.
  • Add more variables to the daily query parameter, for example uv_index_max or sunrise, and print them in the Code node.
  • Duplicate Location settings with several places to cover a team in different cities.

FAQ

Daily weather forecast report with Open-Meteo (no API key): questions

How do I import the "Daily weather forecast report with Open-Meteo (no API key)" workflow into n8n?

Copy the workflow JSON from this page, open the n8n editor, click on an empty canvas and paste with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on macOS). You can also download the .json file and choose Import from File in the workflow menu. Save the workflow, then attach credentials before activating it.

Which nodes and credentials does "Daily weather forecast report with Open-Meteo (no API key)" use?

It uses Manual Trigger, Schedule Trigger, Set, HTTP Request and Code. Any node that connects to an external service needs your own credential — open each node after import and select or create one. Trigger, logic and transformation nodes usually need no credentials.

Can it run on n8n Cloud and on self-hosted n8n?

The workflow format is the same on both. If a node appears as unknown or outdated after import, update n8n to a recent version or, on self-hosted instances, install the required community node package. Features such as $env access are available on self-hosted instances only.

How can I customise "Daily weather forecast report with Open-Meteo (no API key)"?

Start by changing the trigger (schedule, webhook or app event) and the destination nodes to match your stack — it is listed under Personal Productivity. Edit prompts, field mappings and filters in the relevant nodes, use expressions like {{ $json.field }} to map data, and test with a manual execution before activating.
