How it works
On weekday mornings this workflow collects reference exchange rates from the free Frankfurter API, which publishes European Central Bank data without any API key.
It makes two calls. The first gets the latest rates for your base currency against a list of symbols. The second asks for the rates from seven days earlier, using an n8n date expression to build the URL. When that date falls on a weekend or holiday, Frankfurter answers with the closest earlier working day, so the comparison always has data.
A Code node joins the two answers into a table with the current rate, last week's rate and the percentage change for each currency, plus a one-line summary such as "1 USD on 2026-11-02: EUR 0.92 (+0.4% w/w), GBP 0.79 (-0.2% w/w)".
Set up steps
- Import the workflow and open Currency settings.
- Set
base and a comma-separated list of symbols using ISO codes (for example EUR, GBP, JPY).
- Click Execute workflow to see the table.
- Activate the workflow to run it on weekdays at 09:00.
Customise it
- Post
summary to a chat tool or email it to your finance team.
- Write
rows to a sheet each day to build your own rate history.
- Add an IF node to alert you only when a currency moves more than a set percentage.
- Change the comparison window from seven days to one month.
