Buying guide

How to get a real deal on fitness

Sports and fitness deals cover home gym equipment, yoga mats, cycles, sports gear and fitness accessories. Discounts are common, and the gap between a good product and a poor one is often in details photos don't show, such as weight accuracy, padding thickness or frame strength.

Start with how and where you will train: a small flat, a terrace or a building gym. Check weight limits on benches and treadmills, the thickness and grip of mats, and the real weight of dumbbells and plates. Large equipment is hard to return, so read reviews about assembly and noise, and check delivery and installation terms before you buy. Simple, sturdy gear you use often is the best deal.

What counts as a good discount

A rule of thumb: 25–40% off the usual selling price is good for fitness accessories, and 15–25% is good for large equipment like treadmills and exercise cycles.

Best time to buy

Fitness gear is in demand in January, so offers often appear around the Republic Day sale; the festive sales (usually late September to October) and Prime Day (usually July) are also good. See the sale calendar

Before you buy

  • Check the maximum user weight on benches and treadmills
  • Compare the continuous motor rating on treadmills, not peak HP
  • Check mat thickness and grip
  • Look for reviews confirming dumbbells and plates match their stated weight
  • Read reviews about assembly and noise
  • Confirm delivery, installation and return terms for large items

Watch out for

  • Treadmills sold on “peak HP” instead of continuous HP
  • Equipment that can't be returned once assembled
  • Weights that differ from the label
  • Cheap resistance bands that snap

Sports & Fitness deals: common questions

What treadmill motor do I need?

For walking, a continuous rating of around 1.5–2 HP is usually enough; regular running is easier on a motor rated 2.5 HP continuous or more. Peak HP figures are higher and less useful for comparing.

How thick should a yoga mat be?

Around 4–6 mm suits most yoga and floor exercise. Thicker mats are softer on the knees but less stable for balance poses.

Can I return gym equipment after assembly?

Often not, or only for defects. Check the return policy and installation terms before you buy anything large.
