Buying guide

How to get a real deal on appliances

Large appliances and TVs are big, infrequent purchases, and the true price is made up of bank offers, exchange value and installation costs as much as the listed discount. A TV, washing machine, refrigerator or AC will be with you for years, so running cost and service matter as much as the sale price.

Compare BEE star ratings for power use, check whether installation and standard fittings are included, and find out who handles service in your city. For TVs, look at the panel type and software platform, not just the screen size. Prices on large appliances often fall during a sale and climb again soon after, so watch your shortlisted models for a few weeks first.

What counts as a good discount

A rule of thumb: 10–25% under the usual selling price, after bank offers you can use, is a good deal on large appliances; bigger claims usually rely on an inflated MRP or an older model.

Best time to buy

The festive sales (usually late September to October) are the main season for TVs and appliances, with the Republic Day sale also strong; ACs are often cheaper before the summer rush. See the sale calendar

Before you buy

  • Check the BEE star rating and yearly power use
  • Confirm installation, stand or fittings are included
  • Match the exact model number with the brand's site
  • Find out who services the product in your city
  • Measure the space, door widths and stairways
  • Work out the price after bank and exchange offers you'll really use

Watch out for

  • Installation, stand or extra pipe charged separately
  • Older models with a lower star rating than current stock
  • Exchange values that fall after inspection
  • Compressor or panel warranties that differ from the product warranty

Large Appliances & TVs deals: common questions

Do BEE star ratings change over time?

Yes. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency tightens its rating tables from time to time, so a 5-star product from an older table can use more power than a current 5-star model. Check the label's validity period and the stated yearly consumption.

Is installation included with a TV or AC?

Basic installation is often included, but stands, wall brackets and extra copper pipe for ACs may cost more. Check the listing and the brand's installation policy before you order.

Should I buy an AC outside summer?

Off-season prices are sometimes lower and installers are less busy. Compare your shortlisted model's price with what it sells for in summer and in the festive sales.

What does an extended warranty cover?

Usually manufacturing defects after the standard warranty ends. Read whether parts like the compressor, panel or motor are included, and who actually provides the cover.
